COMUNE DI VICENZA

COMUNE DI VICENZA

The Municipality of Vicenza is a local authority. Vicenza is a city located in the North-East of Italy, in the Veneto Region, with a total area of about 80 km2 and a resident population of 111.113 inhabitants (Dec. 2020). Also widely known as “città del Palladio” (“Palladio’s town” – Andrea Pallasio is the Italian Renaissance architect active in the Venetian Republic between1508 and1580), Vicenza has been enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. Vicenza has been part of the Covenant of Mayors network since 2011 and of the Mayors Adapt network from October 2014. Vicenza is a lively and active context, sensitive to environmental issues, committed to a new urban food model and willing to increase the efforts to achieve better results and more challenging goals. The Municipality promotes and coordinates diverse awareness-raising initiatives, projects and actions about environmental sustainability, and its policy-making is oriented towards improving the local framework. For example, the historical center has been closed to traffic since 1996 and logistic is managed exclusively through Electric Vehicles. Vicenza has also signed the Venice Declaration and participates in the Inclusive Cities for Sustainable Cities project, which is a global Alliance of Territories promoted by the International Federation for Family Development that aim to be inclusive of sustainable families by being responsive to their needs in these ten issues, based on 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda: Housing, New Technologies, Education, Healthcare, Safety, Clean Air, Transportation, Affordability, Leisure and Tourism, and Vulnerable Families.
