Tuesday 08/11 in the evening, the technical advisory board for the tomato research at Inagro gathered at the rooftop greenhouse Agrotopia. That board is where tomato growers meet product organization, policy makers and colleagues of Inagro involved in the tomato trials. After a visit to the fresh tomato plantings, research results of past growing season were presented, and suggestions were made with regards to the research priorities for coming season. Besides energy reduction strategies, growers are eager to get more involved in circular economy. Valorisation of waste waters from internal and external sources offer opportunities to fight water shortages during long dry periods in summer. Questions arise concerning potential technical bottlenecks but also the stability of the nutrient solution and presence of contaminants may cause a challenge. Inagro plans a trial around that topic in spring of 2023 and offers growers the chance to shape the trial protocol in the next phase.
