The 2023 8th International Conference on Cloud Computing and Internet of Things (CCIOT 2023) was successfully held in Okinawa, Japan, from September 22-24, 2023, in a hybrid format combining online and offline sessions. This conference provided a platform for researchers, engineers, academicians, and industry professionals from around the world to share their latest research findings and insights in the fields of IoT and Cloud Computing. The topic presented by one of the keynote speaker, prof. Latif Ladid of the Universiyt of Luxemburg, has been the integration of blockchain in food supply chains, emphasizing its ability to tackle key challenges such as food safety, waste reduction, inefficiencies, counterfeit products, and compliance tracking. By offering a single source of truth and leveraging peer-to-peer, secure end-to-end routing enabled by IPv6, blockchain enhances transparency, trust, and efficiency across the supply chain.
Aligned with the goals of the CITIES2030 project, the presentation highlights blockchain’s role in building resilient urban food systems that meet the rising global demand for food while addressing consumer trust and sustainability concerns. The evolution from Blockchain 1.0 to 3.0 is also outlined, demonstrating its broader application in smart cities and IoT ecosystems.
