The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland is preparing a Climate-friendly Food Programme. The Climate-friendly Food Program has begun collaborating with the FUSILLI and Cities2030 projects to develop urban food systems in a sustainable direction.

Both Horizon2020 projects involve a number of European cities networking and sharing information and good practice. In September 2021, the team co-organized a workshop where we sought ideas, thoughts and concepts for project pilots in Tampere (FUSILLI) and Seinäjoki (CITIES2030). The Climate-friendly Food Programme aims to support the transition of society towards a climate-sustainable food system. A climate-sustainable food system takes into account all dimensions of sustainability: social, economic, cultural and ecological. The programme will support the objective of the Finnish Government to achieve a carbon neutral Finland by 2035.

The Climate-friendly Food Programme focuses on what happens from the field onwards, with the main emphasis on reducing emissions from the consumption of food.

The FUSILLI project in Tampere is building a safe, healthy, sustainable, inclusive, fair and cost-effective food system in cooperation with decision-makers’ schools, students, researchers and local residents. The Cities2030 project in Seinäjoki develops solutions for food production methods, transportation, delivery and recycling, in cooperation with the city’s food companies and organizations.
