CITIES2030 partner South East Technological University (SETU) – Walton Institute, was present at the Irish National and World Ploughing Championships on 20-22nd September 2022. This is Europe’s largest agricultural and outdoor event welcomed over 277,000 people across the three days in the countryside of Ratheniska, Co.Laois, approximately 90minutes from Dublin City, Ireland.
CITIES 2030 promotes the production of sustainable food for cities and regions, which is of particular relevance in Ireland as both Cork and Dublin are designated as some of Europe’s 100 “smart cities”. The opportunity allowed Walton Institute to increase awareness of EU-funded initiatives such as sustainable food production with a wide variety of agri-food actors, including farmers, processors, resellers and the general public.
Various participants in the food chain provided observations on the Sustainable Food concept and implementation from their viewpoint. This informal feedback will be used to target future research at addressing those potential barriers for Sustainable Food Production for Cities and Regions.
Further details of Walton Institute’s wider agri-related research can be found on their website.
