On the 9th and 10th of July, between 10 a.m and 9 p.m., the Fair of the Producers from the North-East Region of Romania will be held under the brand name Iași in Traditional, Organic, and Mountain Dishes. The fair is organized by Iași City Hall, Romanian Academy-Iași Branch, and Iași County Agricultural Directorate and held in the Main Alley of Parcul Expoziției (aka Exhibition Park), in Iași City.
The event, a singular happening in the region of Moldova, is addressing both consumers of Iași and producers from the North-East Region of the country, whose food products are certified as traditional, organic, or mountain. With the support of the Agricultural Directorates from the Moldova region, the event gathers producers from all 6 counties of the North-East Region, who have a wide range of food products on display, from pastry, fish and meat products, wines, jams and “zacuscă” (popular vegetable spread), organic fruit and vegetables to apiculture products.
The development of such an event supports the promotion and consumption of local food products that are made after traditional and popular recipes in the area. At the same time, the event aims to boost the entrepreneurial spirit as well as the creation of new sale channels for the food products obtained in medium and small farms in the region. Moreover, the organizers of the event wish to advocate healthy nutrition among the consumers of Iași and also further develop the culture of traditional food products.
Within the same event, it will be held the Cooking Workshop for Children with food products from local producers. The workshop wishes to make children more attentive to healthy eating and is part of a wider set of actions meant to raise awareness of healthy eating habits and also increase the consumers’ trust degree in local food products. The workshop addresses children as they are vectors of training and informing alike, in their own families. It is structured in two sections, one held on the 9th of July and the other on the 10th of the month.
The event is organized within Cities2030, a project funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020 (www.cities.eu). Iași City Hall and the Romanian Academy- Iași Branch are the Romanian partners in this project, along with 39 partners from other European countries. The fair is part of the activities run under the innovative hub Food for Iași Living Lab (www.fill.rdrp.ro), developed within the Cities2030 project by Iași City Hall and the Romanian Academy-Iași Branch.
